Naim takes 4 wickets in few overs, yet Bangladesh under pressure in first Test

Staff Reporter

Bangladesh are not in a good position in the first Test against the West Indies. At the end of the third day, they had lost six wickets for 79 runs in their second innings. But at the start of the day, spinner Naim Islam brought Bangladesh back into the match with the ball — taking four wickets in just 10 overs and five balls.

Speaking at the press conference at the end of the day, Naim said: 'I kept trying to bowl in the same place. It was turning, it was bouncing. I believed that if I bowled in good areas, chances would come.'

On remaining unbeaten on 18 with the bat, he said: 'There was no such plan. The try was to play shots according to the ball that comes. Scoring is not that easy here. The ball is turning. If scoring keeps going, the bowlers will be under pressure.'

On his own chances in the team, Naim said he played a match against Afghanistan after a long time. In his words, the captain does what he thinks is best for the team, and there is more trust in Miraz and Taijul. He hopes that if he performs like this ahead, his chances will come too.

On missed catches, the spinner said catches at silly point are very hard. In his eyes Mominul Haque is the world's best fielder at silly point, and misses can happen sometimes. He said he himself also missed a catch at point.

Naim said everyone gives their hundred percent effort — one day goes well, another day badly. His rhetorical remark was: does every day go the same in everyone's life?

At the end of the third day Bangladesh were 79 for six in their second innings, with Naim unbeaten on 18.
