Shakil killing and viral video: district BNP writes to centre seeking decision on MP Abdul Aziz

The Natore district BNP has written to the party centre seeking a decision on Abdul Aziz, the member of parliament for Natore-4, claiming the party has fallen into an image crisis over his son's involvement in the killing of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil Islam and over an obscene video of the MP himself going viral.
Natore district BNP member secretary Asaduzzaman Asad disclosed this on Friday (30 October) afternoon at a preparatory meeting of the district BNP held for the observance of National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Asaduzzaman Asad said MP Abdul Aziz is a senior joint convener of the Natore district BNP. Under the party constitution, the district BNP cannot take any decision against a district BNP leader. The matters would therefore be informed to the central organisation in writing, and the centre would decide on him.
According to the district BNP, the allegation of the MP's son's involvement in the Shakil killing and the incident of the MP's obscene video going viral have put the party in an image crisis. It is for this reason that a letter has been sent to the centre seeking a decision on him.
It may be noted that on 14 October at around 10:30 at night, as Chhatra Dal leader Shakil Islam was on his way home, miscreants came from behind on a motorcycle beside Bilchalan Shamsuzzoha College and hacked him indiscriminately with a sharp knife before fleeing.
Locals later rescued Shakil and admitted him first to Gurudaspur Upazila Health Complex. After primary treatment, Shakil Islam was admitted in critical condition to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
From there Shakil was sent to Dhaka Medical for better treatment. He was then transferred to Bangladesh Medical. He died last Monday.
