Four cocktails were hurled in the capital’s Kalabagan area at noon on Friday (30 October). One of them exploded on the road on the west side of the bus stand. Police have detained four people on suspicion of involvement in the hurling and the explosion.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations Division) Md. Akhtar Hossain said on Friday night that three cocktails were hurled at noon on the road on the east side of the pedestrian bridge (overbridge) adjacent to the Kalabagan bus stand. Those cocktails did not explode.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police bomb recovery and disposal unit later defused the unexploded cocktails. No one was injured in the incident.

The detainees are Md. Shaminur Rahman, Kamrunnahar Lipi, Md. Nazmul Hasan and Md. Billal Hossain. Among them, Shaminur Rahman is the president of the Awami League in the Tejgaon industrial area police station area, and Kamrunnahar Lipi is the joint convener of the Awami League in the same area.

Police said three live cocktails were recovered from the scene during the drive. Later, acting on information given by the detainees, a search recovered 10 more cocktails. In total, police recovered 13 live cocktails.

All 13 recovered cocktails have already been safely defused by the DMP bomb disposal team.

Police said the process of taking legal action in this matter is under way.
