No alternative to cleanliness to prevent dengue, health director general says in Syedpur

Staff Reporter

Professor Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, has said there is no alternative to cleanliness in tackling the dengue outbreak in the country. He described dengue as a public health challenge.

He made the remarks to reporters on Friday (October 30) at around 8 pm after inspecting the 100-bed hospital in Syedpur, Nilphamari.

The director general said cleanliness drives had been intensified at every hospital and upazila health complex in the country in line with government instructions to prevent dengue.

He said that alongside hospital authorities, ordinary people must also keep their own homes and surroundings clean. Water that collects anywhere must be thrown away, and the lanes around homes must be kept clean.

Calling on everyone to work actively to destroy mosquito breeding sites, he said everyone must come forward alongside the government to prevent dengue. In his words, the spread of dengue can be stopped only through combined effort and awareness.

During the inspection he toured the hospital's overall medical services, cleanliness activities and facilities available for patients, and gave necessary directions to the officials concerned.

Rangpur divisional director Dr Mohammad Wazed Ali, Nilphamari civil surgeon Dr Abdur Razzak and Dr Nurul Huda, resident medical officer (RMO) of Syedpur 100-bed Hospital, were present at the time.
