The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has handed over Shahriar Reza Dip, the business partner and friend of former Air Force flight lieutenant Tahsif Souri, to the river police. He was handed over at midnight on Saturday, according to PBI sources.

The sources said that, as the family has shown no interest in filing a case, the river police themselves will file an unnatural death case over the incident.

Earlier, on Thursday night, the PBI took Dip into custody from the third floor of a house in Block B of Babar Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. Dip is the son of Selim Reza, a resident of that area.

Before Tahsif went missing, Dip had spent about six hours with him. The PBI had been questioning Dip to learn what happened during that time.

On Friday, a PBI investigation team took Dip to the Mazar Basti area of Tongi. He was questioned there about what had happened in the field near boundary pillar No. 29 by the Turag River.

Based on information Dip provided, a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle was recovered from the area. The motorcycle had no number plate.

During PBI questioning, Dip claimed that on the night of the incident, he and Tahsif had gone to the Mazar Basti area beside the Turag River, and that while they were talking there, several people chased them.

According to Dip's account, two of the pursuers were wearing police uniforms. Seeing them, Tahsif ran and at one point jumped into the river, Dip claimed.

Dip said he himself hid behind boundary pillar No. 29 of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), and later left the spot.
