New 400kV Line and Grid Substation Launched in Mymensingh, Low Voltage Eases for 2 Million People

Power Grid Bangladesh PLC has launched a new 400kV transmission line and grid substation to increase the capacity of the power transmission system in the greater Mymensingh region.
On Friday, under the Power Grid Network Strengthening project, the newly built Kaliakair-Shambhuganj 400kV transmission line and the Shambhuganj 400/132/33kV grid substation were put into operation.
According to the company, the new infrastructure will increase the capacity, reliability and quality of the power transmission system in the Mymensingh region.
With the new grid substation and transmission line in operation, the low-voltage problem has significantly decreased in Mymensingh Sadar, Muktagacha, Trishal and part of Netrokona.
Previously, voltage in the related 132kV network dropped to a minimum of 102 to 105kV. After the new infrastructure was launched, it has risen to 120 to 121kV, the company said.
The company said transmission constraints against a summer demand of around 1,600 megawatts of electricity have been removed. As a result, the capacity to supply electricity according to demand has also increased.
The new transmission line and grid substation will increase the efficiency of the transmission system and reduce network constraints. This could reduce system losses by around 1.5 percent to 2 percent a year, the company said.
In addition, with a stronger base for electricity supply, opportunities will increase for expanding the activities of industrial factories, economic zones, the ready-made garment industry, rice mills and various other production-oriented establishments in the Mymensingh region.
The new grid substation and 400kV transmission line will also play a role in increasing the stability and operational reliability of the national grid.
According to Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, the infrastructure built under the project has further strengthened the power transmission system of the country's north-central region. Through this, progress has been made in ensuring reliable, quality and uninterrupted electricity supply for around 2 million people in the greater Mymensingh region.
