A case has been filed over the mysterious death of former Bangladesh Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri. Tahsif's father, K M Enayetul Karim, filed the case as complainant at Uttarkhan police station in the capital on Friday night. Tahsif's 'junior friend' Dwip has been shown arrested in the case.

On Saturday (31 October), Rezaul Karim, deputy police commissioner of the Uttara zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the information.

On Wednesday (28 October) afternoon, police recovered Tahsif's body from the Turag River in the Rajabari Noughat area under Uttarkhan police station in the capital.

Constable Rakib, on duty at the naval police control room, told the media that a naval police team went to the spot after receiving a call via the 999 number and recovered the body. Tahsif was identified after his mobile phone and wristwatch were found. The body was then sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for autopsy.

Constable Rakib added that it is initially suspected he died by drowning. However, the actual cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.

In connection with the incident, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) detained Tahsif's friend Dwip on Thursday night (29 October) from a house on Babar Road in Mohammadpur in the capital.

On Friday, the investigation team took Dwip to a field near boundary pillar No. 29 in the Mazar Basti area adjoining the Turag River in Tongi. Based on information he provided, a black Suzuki Gixxer 150 motorcycle without a number plate was recovered there. The motorcycle is believed to be Tahsif's.

The PBI has said several inconsistencies have been found in Dwip's statements. He has given different accounts at different times about why they went to that area on the night of the incident.

Dwip claims that while they were talking in the area adjoining the Turag River that night, several people wearing police uniforms chased them. In fear, Tahsif jumped into the river, while he himself hid and later fled the spot. The investigating agency is verifying whether the chasers were really police and whether their presence there was lawful.

According to sources linked to the investigation, after leaving his Uttara home on the evening of 27 October, Tahsif met Dwip at the garage of the RAJUK Uttara Apartment Project. They then communicated repeatedly by mobile phone and WhatsApp until midnight. The next day, on the afternoon of 28 October, Tahsif's body was recovered from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River in Tongi; he was identified by the watch on his hand and the iPhone in his pocket.

Tahsif's father, K M Enayetul Karim, refuses to accept his son's death as natural. He has claimed the incident was a planned murder and called for the real mystery to be uncovered.

On Friday (30 October), the PBI handed Dwip over to the naval police. He has now been shown arrested in the case filed by the father.
