Medical test fee for Malaysia-bound workers fixed at Tk 8,000, action promised against overcharging

The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has fixed the medical examination fee for general workers seeking employment in Malaysia at Tk 8,000 per person. No additional money may be charged beyond this fee, the ministry said.
The information was announced in a press release issued by the ministry on Saturday (31 October).
The release said no medical centre will work under any specific recruiting agency for the health examinations. Workers selected to go to Malaysia may undergo their medical tests at any approved medical centre.
The ministry also warned workers not to contact any broker or middleman for the medical examination.
It further said that if, after obtaining a medical slip through one recruiting agency, a worker decides to travel to Malaysia through another agency, the first agency must promptly hand over the worker's medical report. No objection from the slip-issuing agency will be accepted in such cases.
Workers have been asked to inform the ministry immediately by email if any medical centre demands more than the fixed Tk 8,000, or causes harassment, delays or any other trouble.
The ministry said no fee will be payable for obtaining the MyGrams slip. The activities of the medical centres will be regularly monitored and inspected.
Strict legal action will be taken against any medical centre found involved in irregularities, the ministry added. It advised Malaysia-bound workers, recruiting agencies and medical centres to comply with these instructions.
