Health Screening in India at a Tenth of the US Cost: Vlogger's Video Sparks Debate

Travelling abroad to cut medical costs is nothing new. This time a vlogger came from America to India, underwent a complete health check-up and shared his experience in a video. He claims the same kind of health screening in India costs about one-tenth of what it would in America. His video has sparked discussion on social media.

The vlogger had decided to get a full health check before returning to America. On his way to the medical centre by car, he said such a service is not available in America.

On the first day he underwent his annual health check, which included nutrition-related tests and genetic testing. He then had a dental examination. An ultrasound was done on the second day, and on the third day he was taken for cryotherapy.

In the vlogger's words, those who think India does not have quality medical care are wrong. With the video he wrote that it was one of the best medical services he has received in his life.

Asked why he came to India for the check-up, he claimed a complete health screening of this kind costs about ten times more in America than in India. He said the full screening in India cost him 4,000 dollars, about 381,000 rupees. In America, he claimed, the same screening could cost 40,000 dollars, about 3,810,000 rupees.

His experience, however, drew mixed reactions on social media. One person wrote that although India's medical system and doctors are criticised, the quality of service is quite good. Another said India's medical services are of international standard.

Others questioned how accessible such care is for poor people despite the presence of quality private treatment in the country. One social media user commented that this kind of health screening is quite expensive for ordinary Indians as well.

The foreign national's experience has revived debate about India's medical services. But his personal cost figures will not be the same for every hospital or every kind of treatment. Costs can vary depending on the type of treatment, the hospital and the scope of the tests.
