Police Recover 403,000 Indian Rupees from Under a Bed in Netrokona's Kalmakanda, One Man Held

Staff Reporter

Police in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona have recovered 403,000 Indian rupees from a bundle kept under a bed in a house. A man named Dulal Mia, 45, has been detained in connection with the recovery.

He was detained on Saturday morning, October 31, during a raid on his own house in Byangkona village under Rongchhati Union of the upazila. Dulal Mia is the son of the late Abbas Ali of the same village.

According to police sources, the raid on Dulal Mia's house was carried out on the basis of secret information.

During the raid, acting on what he showed them, officers recovered 806 Indian notes of 500 rupees each from a bundle kept under the bed in his house. The notes total 403,000 Indian rupees.

Kalmakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohel Rana said police initially suspect that Dulal Mia may be linked to people who assist smuggling rings at the border through Indian rupees.

During questioning, however, Dulal Mia claimed that he had bought the rupees little by little, from time to time, from members of the local Garo community and saved them up.

Police say they are examining his claim seriously.

A regular case has been filed against him at the police station over the incident. Police said he has been handed over to court after the legal process.
