At least 20 people were injured in Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj when two groups clashed over a comment on a TikTok video reel. The clashes broke out in rounds on Saturday afternoon at Ashuganj Bazar between the Abirpara and Nakarpara groups.

Panic spread through the market during the clash. Shops closed amid chases, counter-chases and brick-throwing, according to police and local sources.

Police and local sources said Siam and Fahad of the Abirpara group and Arif and Bokkor of the Nakarpara group, from Sohagpur village in Durgapur union of Ashuganj upazila, are friends. On Thursday they quarrelled over a comment made on a TikTok video reel.

Tension between the two sides had continued since Friday. On Saturday a mediation meeting was arranged at the business establishment of former Ashuganj upazila BNP president Zahirul Islam Zaru Mia at Ashuganj Bazar to settle the matter.

Although the issue was settled at the mediation, the two sides later clashed again with locally made weapons. Panic spread across the market and shops closed.

Police and local people tried to bring the situation under control. At least 20 people from both sides were injured. The injured received treatment at the upazila health complex and other hospitals.

Ashuganj police station officer-in-charge Md Anisur Rahman said he had learned that the two groups clashed over a comment on a TikTok video reel. Police stopped the clash quickly and brought the situation under control, and the situation is now normal.

The OC also said neither side had filed a written complaint over the clash. Necessary legal action over the incident is under process.
