West Indies captain Roston Chase credits spinners for Mirpur Test win
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, West Indies subdued Bangladesh with spin in the first Test of the series. After the match, Caribbean captain Roston Chase credited his spinners for the win, saying the visiting spinners took more wickets in the match than the Tiger spinners.
Chase said after the match: 'We have a quality spin attack, especially led by Jomel Warrican. I have known him for many years; we went to the same school. He is a very skilled bowler and is improving constantly. Whenever he gets an opportunity, he proves his ability.'
In Chase's words, Warrican is leading the spin bowling unit and giving the team confidence to do well. The captain congratulated his teammate for that.
The Caribbean captain also recalled the contribution of the pacers. He said: 'Our pacers also helped greatly in keeping the run rate under control. They did not let Bangladesh score many runs.'
Chase said that apart from the second hour of the first day, his team had found its rhythm and kept Bangladesh's batters under pressure with line and length. In his words, the entire bowling unit deserves credit for the win.
Chase saw the quick wickets in the second innings as a major reason behind the victory. He said it was first important not to let Bangladesh take a very big lead, because chasing a large target in the final innings on Bangladeshi soil is difficult.
Chase said: 'Then with the ball in the second innings we started well. Taking four wickets quickly broke the backbone of Bangladesh's batting. After that we tried patiently to take the remaining wickets.'
