The BNP-backed panel has won every post in the election to the Narayanganj district unit of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. The chief election commissioner and district council administrator, Professor Md Mamun Mahmud, announced the results on Saturday (31 October) night.

Voting had begun earlier that day at 10am in the auditorium of the district council office. Polling continued without a break until 4pm. The results were announced at night after counting.

There were 997 voters in this election. Of those, 339 votes were cast, and only one ballot was rejected.

Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, member secretary of the Narayanganj metropolitan BNP, won the general secretary post with 184 votes. His rival, Rezaul Karim Khan, received 154 votes — a margin of 30.

Advocate Nabi Hossain, a former public prosecutor (PP) of the district court, was elected vice chairman. He was returned unopposed.

Just three days before the election, on 28 October, vice chairman candidate and businessman GM Haider Ali withdrew his candidacy citing illness. That withdrawal left the post uncontested.

The five members elected are former Narayanganj metropolitan Jubo Dal president Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed (299 votes), metropolitan BNP joint convener Advocate Zakir Hossain (281), metropolitan BNP joint convener Advocate Sarkar Humayun Kabir (275), Fatulla thana BNP organising secretary Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury (263), and metropolitan BNP joint convener Fateh Mohammad Reza Ripon (218).

Against the BNP-backed panel, one independent candidate each contested the vice chairman and general secretary posts. For the member posts, three candidates ran independently against the panel's five candidates.

With the announcement of the results, BNP-backed leaders have secured victory in every post of the Narayanganj district unit.
