HSC 27 Years After SSC: Sreepur UP Member Aminul, 47, Earns GPA 4.63

Amid the realities of life, family responsibilities and the demands of public service, his interest in study never faded. Twenty-seven years after passing the SSC, he picked up his books again, and defying age, he has fulfilled a long-cherished dream.
Md Aminul Islam, member of Ward No. 2 of Mawna Union Parishad in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur, has passed the HSC examination at the age of 47. He did not stop at merely passing — in the HSC (Vocational) examination he earned a GPA of 4.63.
His success became known when the HSC results were published on Saturday (31 October). His achievement has drawn praise and joy in the area, and he has become an inspiration to people who dropped out of education or hesitate to resume study because of age.
Aminul Islam’s home is in Chakpara village of Mawna union in Sreepur upazila. His father’s name is Turab Ali. He passed the SSC in 1999 from Mawna Bohumukhi High School.
After that, family and household responsibilities, the need to earn a living and many other engagements made it impossible to continue studying for a long time. But the desire for higher education never disappeared — alongside serving as a public representative, he felt the urge to make himself better educated.
It was from that desire that Aminul Islam enrolled in the 2024 academic year at City Information Technology and Institute in the Pubail area of Gazipur city. Balancing family, personal work and his duties as a public representative, he began studying anew, sitting with his books in his spare time after the day’s work.
His colleague, UP member Shamim Mridha, said Aminul Islam is a responsible person, and that making time to study at this age alongside his duties as a public representative is truly commendable. His achievement has inspired everyone, and many will become interested in resuming education after seeing him, he added.
Md Aminul Islam said there is no age for education. His wish is that those who left their studies midway for various reasons will find the courage to start again after seeing his achievement. He wanted to prove that study can continue even while managing family and responsibilities.
He added that he does not intend to stop here. If the opportunity comes, he wants to enrol in an honours programme in the future and attain higher education.
Acting chairman of Mawna Union Parishad, Md Matiur Rahman, said this is not only Aminul Islam’s achievement but a matter of pride for the whole union parishad. Another member of the parishad has also passed the SSC at an older age. He believes such interest will inspire people towards education.
Sreepur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahid Bhuiyan said it is undoubtedly a commendable initiative. That a person has studied at this age and achieved a good result is an example for today’s society.
