Braces from Raphinha and Yamal power Barcelona to 6-1 rout of Alaves at the top, matching an 86-year record
Barcelona returned to winning ways in Spanish La Liga and remain top of the points table. With braces from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, Hansi Flick's side thrashed Alaves 6-1.
At home at Camp Nou, Brazilian forward Raphinha gave the lead in the eighth minute, scoring from Pedri's pass. The hosts doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, Lopez putting Yamal's delivery into the net. In the 41st minute Raphinha found his second goal from Lopez's pass. In added time Yamal sent Joao Cancelo's pass into the net, and Barca went into the break leading 4-0.
In the second half, in the 64th minute, Yamal scored his second of the match and the team's fifth from a pass by substitute Gabriel Jesus.
In the 81st minute Gordon made it 6-0 from Rodri's pass. In the 84th minute Mariano Diaz pulled one goal back for Alaves, only reducing the margin. Barca eventually left the field with a huge 6-1 win.
With this win Barcelona have shared Sevilla's 86-year-old record. In the 1940-41 season Sevilla scored 46 goals in their first 11 matches; the Catalan club have touched that milestone this season, with Yamal, Raphinha and their teammates putting the ball in opponents' nets 46 times in the first 11 matches. Barca and Sevilla are second on this list; Athletic Bilbao are top, having scored 49 goals in the same number of matches in the 1930-31 season.
Barcelona are top of the table with 30 points from 11 matches. Atletico Madrid are second with 28 points from 11 matches, and Real Madrid are third with 24 points from 10 matches.
