Hridoy out to the same mistake in both innings, captain Shanto stands by him and keeps faith
Bangladesh lost the first Test of the series against the West Indies by a big margin of 8 wickets. The team's batters failed in both innings; Towhid Hridoy and Tanzid Tamim in particular got out poorly. But the focus of discussion is the way Hridoy gave his wicket away in the same manner in both innings.
The manner of Hridoy's dismissals in both innings was glaring. In the first innings, after getting set, he was bowled trying to play a slog. He did not learn from it; in the second innings, when he needed to bat carefully and steady the innings, he lofted a catch to mid-on playing a flamboyant shot on only the second ball he faced.
At a time of such criticism of his teammate, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has stood by him. Shanto is also hopeful Hridoy will not make the same mistake if he finds himself in such a situation again. He said Hridoy is a very smart boy who learns very quickly, and that he believes that next time such a situation arises, Hridoy's execution might be a little better or his planning will be better.
Shanto also said Hridoy should not be judged by these shots. He said everyone's game is different, that he does not want to judge any batter by four innings and nobody should, and that everyone knows Hridoy's ability and how good a batter he is, especially in white-ball cricket, adding that he scores long runs when he plays first-class cricket too.
The Bangladesh captain claimed Hridoy would correct his mistakes and return to his comfortable batting. He said Hridoy has batted in only four innings in international Test cricket, that he has full faith he will bounce back very well and score big runs, and that he is not worrying much about it because Hridoy has already proved how good a cricketer he is in international cricket.
