Woman named Disha, seen with Tahsif at Uttara bar, arrested in ex-air force officer murder case

Staff Reporter

The River Police have arrested a young woman named 'Disha' in the murder case of former Bangladesh Air Force officer Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri. According to officers involved in the investigation, the woman was seen staying with Tahsif at a bar in Uttara shortly before his death, and clear evidence of this has been found in analysis of CCTV footage.

Tongi River Police outpost inspector Firoz Ahmed confirmed the information to the media on Sunday. He said the woman was arrested in a special drive on Saturday night.

At the same time, investigators are intensively interrogating the case's prime suspect and Tahsif's friend, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Deep, who is on a four-day remand on court orders.

Earlier on Saturday, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Pias granted Deep a four-day remand against a police plea for seven days.

Abdullah Al Mamun, superintendent of police of the River Police's Dhaka region, noted that several pieces of preliminary evidence of Deep's involvement in Tahsif's death have been found, and he is being interrogated on the basis of that information.

Reviewing the CCTV footage, those involved in the investigation said Deep was with the slain officer from 6:30pm to 1:30am on Tuesday, the day of the incident. They later went to the Mazar Basti area of Tongi, from where Tahsif never returned.

Deep claims that when miscreants chased them from behind, he managed to escape and save himself but Tahsif jumped into the river. However, as various inconsistencies were found in his statements during preliminary interrogation, investigating officers are examining the matter with the utmost importance.

Notably, Tahsif, 28, went missing mysteriously after leaving his Uttara home on Tuesday evening. The next day, Wednesday afternoon, his lifeless body was recovered from the Turag river near Rajabari ghat in Tongi.

After the victim's father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unknown persons at Uttarkhan police station over the incident, Deep, who had been detained from Mohammadpur, was shown arrested in that case.
