Mushtaq finds talented spinners in bowler hunt, two mystery spinners also catch his eye

Staff Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held a nationwide “bowler hunt” in October. Bangladesh spin coach Mushtaq Ahmed said he was delighted at the end of the hunt and had found young, talented spinners. Foreign specialists worked alongside local coaches in the bowler hunt.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Mushtaq said: “There are plenty of spinners here who have very good actions and turn the ball. They are very talented. We have to make sure their basics are strong. If we can improve the process now, I hope they will be able to play T20, ODI and Test cricket.”

Explaining the need to fix bowling basics, the former Pakistan bowler said: “If the basics are not strong, no spinner, fast bowler or batter can perform consistently. This is very important.” He also said such camps by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the sponsor are very important for the development process.

Mushtaq advised keeping everything simple while stressing the basics for spinners. “I think everything, including the basics, needs to be made simple. They will remember simple things for a long time. They are very talented, but learning the basic things as a spinner is important,” he said.

Mystery spinners have also caught the Bangladesh spin coach’s eye. Mushtaq said: “There are many (mystery bowlers) here. We are watching them, and I hope within a few days, after looking at their actions and other aspects, we will be able to select very good spinners. There are already two very good mystery spinners.”
