Frequent Load Shedding Disrupts Islamic University Campus, Chhatra Dal Demands Solar Panels on All Buildings and Halls

The Islamic University (IU) unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has demanded the installation of solar panels as an alternative solution to frequent load shedding on the campus in Kushtia. The student organisation submitted a memorandum to the university administration demanding uninterrupted electricity.
On Saturday (31 October) at noon, Chhatra Dal leaders handed the memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Motinur Rahman. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Emtaz Hossain, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Idris Ali and Zia Parishad President Professor Dr Md Farukuzzaman Khan were present at the time.
The delegation was led by unit convener Masud Rumi Mithun, member secretary Rafiz Ahmed and senior joint convener Anwar Parvez. Other leaders of the organisation were also present with them.
The memorandum said the recent power crisis and frequent load shedding have seriously disrupted the university's administrative work, teaching, examinations and research. It also noted that daily life of students in the residential halls is being disrupted for the same reason.
In this situation, the Chhatra Dal leaders said in the memorandum, installing solar panels on all administrative and academic buildings, including the residential halls, is now a demand of the time in order to keep educational and administrative activities running.
The leaders also said the government has already taken initiatives to install solar panels at various government institutions to tackle the power shortage. If the same initiative is implemented at Islamic University, the university will develop its own solar power generation capacity.
According to the memorandum, installing solar panels would reduce dependence on conventional electricity and cut costs, lessen the suffering caused by load shedding, and allow the university to play a role in protecting the environment.
