The overall pass rate in the HSC examinations in Lalmonirhat district stands at 46.71 percent. That means more than half of the students who sat the examinations in the district did not pass this time.

The figures come from an analysis of the results published by the Dinajpur Education Board. Across the eight districts under the board, no student passed at a total of 49 educational institutions this year. Six of those institutions are in Lalmonirhat.

Among Lalmonirhat's zero-pass institutions, three are in Kaliganj upazila, two are in Hatibandha upazila and one is in Aditmari upazila.

At Hatibandha Model College in Hatibandha upazila, 11 candidates sat the examination this year, but none of them passed. The sole candidate from Aminur Rahman College in the same upazila also failed to pass.

In Kaliganj upazila, two candidates sat from Sonarhat School and College, one from Duhuli SC High School and College and one from Dakshin Ghanashyam School and College. None of them passed.

Two candidates sat from Gandhamarua School and College in Aditmari upazila. Neither of them passed either. In total, all 18 candidates who sat from the district's six institutions failed.

At district level, a total of 7,455 candidates from Lalmonirhat sat the HSC examinations. Of them, 3,335 were male students and 4,120 were female students.

A total of 3,482 candidates passed. Among those who passed, 1,363 were male students and 2,119 were female students.

The pass rate for male students is 40.87 percent and for female students 51.43 percent. On that count, the pass rate for female students in the district is higher than that for male students.

This year, 102 students in the district achieved GPA-5. Among the GPA-5 achievers, 36 are male students and 66 are female students.

In overall pass rate, Lalmonirhat ranks third among the eight districts under the Dinajpur Education Board. Despite ranking third, the failure of more than half the district's candidates and the zero pass rate at six institutions have raised questions about the results.

Parents allege that a lack of regular teaching and a shortage of teachers at institutions in char and remote areas, among other reasons, have had a negative effect on students' results.

Attempts were made several times to contact the Lalmonirhat district education officer for comment on the matter, but no comment was obtained, according to the report.
