Madrasa Director Hasan Ali Arrested in Gaibandha Student Rape Case, Produced Before Court

Hasan Ali (69), director of a madrasa in Ramchandrapur Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, has been arrested in a case filed over the alleged rape of a student of the institution. Members of Special Response Battalion-13 (SRB-13) arrested him in a raid.
He was detained late on Saturday night (31 October) in front of the Shyamoli Travels bus counter at Dholbhanga bus stand in Palashbari Upazila. After the arrest, he was handed over to Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.
Arrested Hasan Ali is from the Porabari Mor area of Ramchandrapur Union in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. He is the son of the late Kasim Uddin.
The arrest was announced on Sunday (1 November) afternoon in a press release signed by SRB-13 Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami.
According to the case statement, the victim's parents admitted the girl to the residential branch of the madrasa about eight years ago and moved to Dhaka in search of work. They travelled from Dhaka to Gaibandha every month to see their daughter and paid the madrasa expenses.
The statement says director Hasan Ali had been making indecent proposals to the girl for six months. When she informed her parents, they spoke to the director by phone. He then verbally admitted his fault and assured them it would not happen again.
It is further alleged that on Friday, 28 August, after Fajr prayers at around 6am, the director called the girl to his house next to the madrasa. As she entered, he gagged her and raped her, threatening to kill her and hide the body if she told anyone.
The girl later managed to inform her parents in Dhaka by mobile phone. They came to Gaibandha on 31 August, heard everything from their daughter at the madrasa, and filed a rape case at Gaibandha Sadar Police Station on 1 September.
Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector Swapan Kumar Roy said SRB arrested Hasan Ali, the prime accused in the rape case, and handed him over to the police station. After interrogation, he was produced before a court in the afternoon.
