The West Indies have beaten Bangladesh by eight wickets in the Mirpur Test to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Visiting captain Roston Chase led from the front in both batting and bowling.

Chase took no wickets in the first innings but played an important innings of 43 runs. In the second innings he claimed five wickets with his spin, his fifth five-wicket haul in an innings in Tests.

West Indies coach Darren Sammy was impressed by Chase's all-round performance. After the match, alongside praising the captain in the dressing room, he gifted him a red ball.

In a video posted on Cricket West Indies' (CWI) Facebook page, Sammy said: 'Who is the impactful player of the match? That is the award I have to give now, right? Many players gave their best. But honestly, credit has to go to captain Roston Chase. He led brilliantly. He took five wickets in the second innings.' The video also showed Sammy in a dilemma while giving the award.

In individual performance, however, Jomel Warrican was ahead of everyone in the match. He was named player of the match with nine wickets, while Brandon King played an unbeaten innings of 81 runs in the second innings.

Windies commentator Ian Bishop congratulated the Caribbean side on beating Bangladesh. The team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed in both batting and bowling in the Mirpur Test.

The West Indies had lost the ODI series against India but drew the T20 series against them. After a successful tour of India, the Caribbean side has made a superb start to the Bangladesh tour as well, and the Mirpur win will raise their confidence further.

The second and final Test of the series begins on November 5 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Chase's team will take the field there aiming to retain the momentum of the first match and win the series.
