Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 to move closer to Barcelona
Real Madrid have beaten Racing Club Santander 3-0 in La Liga. The win lifted the Spanish giants to third place in the points table.
Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande each scored once for Real. All three goals came in the first half.
French striker Mbappe put Real Madrid ahead from a penalty in the 11th minute of the match.
Exactly 11 minutes later, in the 22nd minute, English star Bellingham scored the second goal. Diomande scored in the 36th minute, giving Real a 3-0 lead in the first half itself.
Even against the team placed 16th in the table, Jose Mourinho's side could not dominate the match by a large margin. The battle for possession between the two teams was roughly even.
Real Madrid were, however, ahead in attacks on goal and total shots, and that is where the difference in the match was made, according to the match account.
Neither team could score in the second half. Real therefore left the field with a 3-0 margin, and Santander could not get back into the match.
With this win, Mourinho's Real Madrid are third with 27 points from nine wins in 11 matches.
Barcelona are top of the table with 30 points from 11 matches, while Atletico Madrid are second with 28 points from the same number of matches. Real's gap to leaders Barcelona is now three points.
