All 13 First-Batch Candidates Fail in Panchagarh's Debiganj; 31 Teaching Posts Vacant

None of the 13 students who sat the 2026 HSC (Vocational) examination for the first time from Debiganj Government Technical School and College in Panchagarh has passed. Although 15 teachers are working at the institution, the failure of the entire first batch has sparked discussion in the area.
After the Higher Secondary and equivalent results were published last Saturday, an analysis of the institution's results showed that all 13 students failed in one or more subjects in the examination held under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
Of the unsuccessful students, 12 were from the Electrical Works and Maintenance trade and one was from the Electronic Control and Communication trade.
College sources said the institution was established in Debiganj upazila town in 2021 and its formal activities under the Technical Education Board began the same year. Teaching in vocational courses for grades six and nine began from the 2022 academic year.
HSC (Vocational) teaching then began in 2024, and in 2026 the first batch of students sat the examination for the first time.
The institution currently has 673 students in total. Its approved manpower, including teachers and staff, is 64 — 46 teaching posts and 18 staff posts.
But only 15 teachers and 6 staff are currently working. That means 43 posts in total are vacant, of which 31 are teaching posts alone.
Although the institution has two academic buildings, one five-storey and one four-storey, concerned persons said a crisis has arisen in running educational activities because of the lack of necessary manpower.
Acting principal Md Mostafa Kamal took charge at the end of May this year. He said by phone that the teacher shortage is one of the main reasons behind the result disaster.
He also said most families of students admitted here are in financial crisis. For that reason many students go to work in garment factories in Dhaka after admission, which may be another reason for the poor results.
The acting principal said he has heard the government will create an opportunity for students who failed in one or two subjects to sit the examination again, and that he will try to help the students achieve good results in that opportunity.
