Stevens Endorses Rogers, the Republican She Once Called Trump's 'Rubber Stamp'

A striking reversal has shaken Michigan's Senate race in the United States. Democratic Representative Haley Stevens announced on Sunday that she was endorsing Republican candidate and former congressman Mike Rogers, even though she had been one of his fiercest critics throughout the campaign.
A video announcing the endorsement, posted on social media, showed Stevens smiling next to Rogers at a church in Detroit. She had previously pitched herself to Democratic voters as their best chance of stopping Rogers.
Stevens narrowly lost the Democratic Senate primary in Michigan to Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. After her loss, she initially endorsed El-Sayed.
During the campaign, Stevens attacked Rogers over his stance on issues as varied as health care, trade, the environment, abortion, election integrity and foreign policy. She twice voted to impeach President Donald Trump and frequently cast Rogers as one of his eager acolytes.
As recently as August she said Rogers 'will be another rubber stamp for Donald Trump's dangerous agenda.' In June 2026 she called his record on LGBTQ+ rights 'repulsive' and described him in the same month as 'just the latest MAGA grifter in politics for a paycheck.'
In September 2025 she called Rogers an 'election denier' and said he was an out-of-touch, out-of-state millionaire unfit to represent Michigan in the Senate. In February 2026 she said Rogers was not fighting for the middle class and that voters would send him back to Florida in November.
In recent weeks Stevens and El-Sayed publicly feuded over United States policy on Israel, and their relationship deteriorated, leading to her defection to Rogers, according to the report.
Her decision led several of her staff members to resign and incensed Democrats nationwide, who feared her endorsement could put a key Senate seat at risk.
