Mohammad Rafikul Islam Rabbi of the Bhatiary area in Sitakunda upazila, Chattogram, has scored GPA-5 in the HSC examination by writing with his feet after losing both hands in an accident. He sat this year's HSC examination from Government Model School and College in Chattogram city.

Rabbi had achieved the same success before. In 2024 he also scored GPA-5 in the SSC examination. Relatives and local people are happy at Rabbi's achievement.

Rabbi is the son of Bazlur Rahman. His father Bazlur Rahman is a day labourer by profession and his mother Rozi Akter is a homemaker. His father said Rabbi is the eldest among his two sons and one daughter and had been very good at studies since childhood.

The accident happened on 5 October 2016. Bazlur Rahman said that on his way home from school, Rabbi was electrocuted after becoming caught on an electric wire on the Bhatiary foot overbridge. He was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in a seriously injured condition. After several months of treatment he recovered, but both his hands had to be amputated.

Bazlur Rahman added that after the accident Rabbi had lost his morale for studies and he too had thought Rabbi might have to stop. Later he learned that a boy named Raihan in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar, had studied at the University of Chittagong after losing both hands to electrocution. He contacted Raihan, brought him home, and Raihan spoke with Rabbi. After that, Rabbi began trying to study again.

The accident had happened just one month before the Class Five completion examination. His father said Rabbi first started writing with his mouth and, writing that way, scored 4.83 in the Class Five completion examination. From Class Seven he started writing with his feet.

Rabbi himself said that after the accident his parents, teachers and many others gave him courage, and that is why he scored GPA-5 in the HSC. His dream is to pursue higher education in science, and for that he wants to get admitted to the University of Chittagong.
