The Ministry of Education has sought an additional allocation of Tk 3,267 crore 90 lakh to implement the National Pay Scale 2026 for MPO-listed teachers and employees working in private educational institutions.

The allocation was sought in a letter sent on Sunday (1 November) from the Private Secondary-3 branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division to the Secretary of the Finance Division.

The letter said all MPO-listed teachers and employees in private educational institutions currently receive salaries and allowances under the National Pay Scale 2015. Additional funds will be needed to pay them under the National Pay Scale 2026.

According to the calculation, an additional Tk 2,531 crore 54 lakh will be needed for teachers and employees of private secondary schools, and Tk 736 crore 36 lakh for those of private colleges. Together, the additional allocation required stands at Tk 3,267 crore 90 lakh.

The letter further said the government is working for the development of the education sector and for the welfare and improved living standards of teachers and employees. To that end, it requested that the necessary additional allocation be given in favour of the Secondary and Higher Education Division in the current 2026-27 fiscal year.
