Netanyahu presses Trump to strike Iran right after the midterms, Trump favours giving diplomacy time

Staff Reporter

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pressed US President Donald Trump to attack Iran immediately after the United States midterm elections.

US news outlet Axios reported on Sunday (November 1) local time that Netanyahu and Trump spoke by phone last Saturday. During the call, they discussed the latest situation of the talks with Iran.

Netanyahu then urged Trump to start the attack immediately after the election. Trump, however, expressed his view in favour of giving diplomacy time. The US midterm elections will be held tomorrow, Tuesday.

An Israeli source told Axios the phone conversation between Trump and Netanyahu was 'tough'. A US source, on the other hand, said the conversation between them was 'direct'.

Later, at the end of Sunday, Trump confirmed that he had spoken with Netanyahu. He described the discussion as good, however, and said the two of them had also talked about Iran.

On February 28, the United States and Israel jointly attacked Iran. Fighting then stopped in June through Pakistan's mediation. A deal was also reached between the Americans and the Iranians at that time, but it did not succeed.

For the past eight months, President Trump has walked two paths on Iran. First, he has attacked Iran. Second, he has been trying to reach a deal with Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.

At a rally yesterday, Trump said good talks were under way on their deal with Iran. At the same time, however, he said they might have to attack several places in Iran, including Pickaxe Mountain.
