BNP leaders take positions on Gazipur highways amid workers' movement, BGB deployment rises to 10 platoons

Amid the ongoing workers' movement in Gazipur, leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies have taken positions at several important points to keep traffic moving on the highways and to avoid possible disorder.
On Monday (November 2), their presence was seen at various points on the highway from Bhogra Bypass to Naojor in Gazipur city.
Party leaders and activists took positions beside the highway under the leadership of Mujibur Rahman, the Member of Parliament for Gazipur-1.
Meanwhile, a large number of leaders and activists are positioned in the Konabari and Kashimpur areas under the leadership of Showkat Hossain Sarkar, president of Gazipur city BNP and administrator of the city corporation.
Tanvir Siraj, president of BNP's Basan police station unit under Gazipur Metro, said: 'BNP leaders and activists have taken positions at important points from Bhogra Bypass to Naojor in the city to keep vehicles moving on the highway, reduce the suffering of road passengers and prevent disorder.'
Meanwhile, the BGB presence has also been increased to control the law-and-order situation in light of the ongoing labour unrest in Gazipur's industrial belt.
After five platoons of BGB were deployed yesterday, another five platoons were deployed today, taking the total BGB deployment in Gazipur to 10 platoons.
Earlier, on Sunday morning, workers began a protest by blockading the Dhaka-Tangail highway, demanding that the minimum monthly wage be set at Tk 30,000.
The blockade halted traffic on the highway and created a long tailback. Traffic later returned to normal at around 2:30pm, after about six and a half hours, through the efforts of the police and the BGB.
