Eliza Zaman named final candidate for reserved women's seat-23 by-election after not withdrawing

Staff Reporter

The Election Commission (EC) has published the name of Eliza Zaman, the candidate nominated by the BNP and its alliance, as the final candidate in the by-election for reserved women's seat-23 of the 13th National Parliament, which had been declared vacant.

The information was announced on Monday (November 2) in a notice signed by Md Moin Uddin Khan, joint secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat and the returning officer.

According to the notice, under the announced schedule for the 2026 reserved women's seat by-election, Eliza Zaman filed her nomination paper as the sole candidate on behalf of the BNP and its alliance by 4pm on October 26.

After scrutiny of the submitted nomination paper, the Election Commission declared her nomination valid, the notice said.

Under the EC schedule, the deadline for withdrawing candidacy was 4pm on November 1. As she did not withdraw within that time, Eliza Zaman's name was officially published in the final list under section 12(1) of the National Parliament (Reserved Women's Seats) Election Act, 2004.
