Doctor Donates His Own Blood After No Donor Found in Ujirpur, Saving Critically Ill Anjura Begum

At Ujirpur Upazila Health Complex in Barishal, resident medical officer (RMO) Dr Mahidul Islam Tuhin saved a critically ill patient's life by donating his own blood when no donor could be found in an emergency.
On 31 October, Anjura Begum (40), wife of Manju Hawlader of Bohrkathi village in Barakotha union of the upazila, was admitted to the health complex with an 'incomplete abortion'. Tests found her haemoglobin level dangerously low, and she was bleeding.
As the patient's condition became critical, hospital doctors advised an urgent blood transfusion considering her physical state.
Her husband Manju Hawlader, a day labourer, said his wife's blood group was 'A positive'. Despite contacting relatives and various blood donors, no donor could be found until Sunday (1 November) morning, and Anjura Begum was gradually weakening from blood loss.
Learning of the situation, Dr Mahidul Islam Tuhin came forward. After cross-matching his own blood group with the patient's and finding a match, he donated blood to her himself.
Dr Tuhin posted the whole incident on social media on Monday (2 November) afternoon. After the post spread, netizens praised his humanity.
Dr Mahidul Islam Tuhin said that to deal with such situations in Ujirpur, active voluntary blood donation organisations and an effective network for quickly contacting donors in emergencies should be built on an urgent basis.
