Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has said that the claim in a Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) research report — that women have no participation in the party's central committee — is false and misleading.

Jamaat secretary general Mia Golam Parwar said the party's central working council has 21 women members and its central Majlis-e-Shura has 122 women members. In addition, about 43 percent of the party's rukon (members) are women.

On Sunday, TIB published a research report titled 'Institutional good governance of political parties in Bangladesh', which stated that women have no participation in Jamaat's central committee.

In a statement on Monday, Golam Parwar said Jamaat-e-Islami practises democracy at every level of the organisation in line with its constitution, and that women have activities and committees at all levels. He condemned and protested the information given in the TIB report about women's participation.

Golam Parwar described the publication of such a fact-based report by a responsible organisation like TIB as undesirable, unintended and a sign of irresponsibility. He called on TIB to be more careful and responsible in preparing reports or publications about Jamaat in the future.
