Two arrested in Barguna with 2,250 yaba pills hidden in a shoe, including a Rohingya woman
The district Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested two people with 2,250 yaba pills at the municipal bus terminal in the Khejurtala area of Gaurichanna Union No. 2 in Barguna Sadar Upazila. The arrested are Samuda Begum, 45, and Md Rabiul, 60.
They were arrested during a raid at the bus terminal at around 3:30 pm on Monday, November 2. Md Hamimur Rashid, deputy director of the Barguna narcotics control department, said Samuda Begum identified herself as Rohingya during preliminary questioning.
Both arrested people are residents of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox's Bazar district. According to the department, they had travelled from Cox's Bazar to Barguna via Barishal, changing buses several times along the way.
The DNC said a checkpoint was set up at the Barguna municipal bus terminal acting on a tip-off. A passenger bus named Sajib Khan, which had left Barishal for Barguna, was searched at the checkpoint.
During the search, officers became suspicious of passengers Samuda Begum and Md Rabiul. On further searching, 2,250 yaba pills were found specially hidden inside a shoe worn by Rabiul. The recovered yaba was seized and both were arrested.
Deputy Director Md Hamimur Rashid said the raid was carried out on a tip-off with the help of information technology, and that a Rohingya woman was among the two arrested. He said they had learned that the woman had come to Barguna from Cox's Bazar several times before to supply yaba.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act is being filed against the two at Barguna Sadar Police Station, the deputy director said.
