Gold prices have been raised again in the domestic market. The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) announced the new prices in a notification on Monday morning (November 2). Gold prices fluctuate almost every day, but this increase is being seen as a big leap.

Under the new price list, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 220,858 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT.

In addition, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 210,943 per bhori. The price of 18-carat gold is Tk 181,200 per bhori, and traditional-method gold has been set at Tk 148,016 per bhori.

While gold prices have been raised, silver prices in the domestic market remain unchanged. At present, 22-carat silver is priced at Tk 3,499 per bhori including VAT.

In addition, 21-carat silver is Tk 3,383 per bhori, 18-carat silver Tk 2,916 per bhori, and traditional-method silver Tk 2,216 per bhori.

BAJUS noted that making charges will apply to gold jewellery sales according to design. The association said that since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, no separate VAT can be charged to customers.

Excluding making charges and the value of stones, 12 percent will be deducted for jewellery exchange and 18 percent for purchase. However, no separate VAT can be deducted in exchange or purchase cases, BAJUS said.

The notification said these selling prices will remain in force at all jewellery establishments across the country until a further decision is taken.
