The office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal has taken the initiative to confiscate the properties of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, both convicted in a case over crimes against humanity, and bring them under state control. Separate memoranda have been sent to the Home Ministry asking it to take the necessary steps.

Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam disclosed the information on Tuesday (3 November).

The memorandum on Sheikh Hasina's properties, sent to the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, cited the verdict delivered by International Crimes Tribunal-1 on 17 November 2025.

In that verdict in ICT BD case number 2/2025, the tribunal sentenced fugitive accused Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity. The same verdict ordered that all her properties be confiscated and distributed as compensation to July martyr families and victims.

The memorandum said that if Sheikh Hasina's movable and immovable properties are not quickly brought under government control, there is a risk they could be enjoyed, sold or otherwise transferred. That could hamper implementation of the verdict and order on confiscation.

In this situation, the memorandum requested that a complete list of all Sheikh Hasina's movable and immovable properties be prepared and that they be brought under state control.

It also asked that, in line with the tribunal's direction, necessary steps be taken to distribute the properties as compensation to the martyr families and victims of the July mass uprising.

The Chief Prosecutor's office has sent a separate memorandum to the Home Ministry seeking the same kind of steps to implement the order confiscating Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal's properties.
