Bengal Commercial Bank has formally handed over 300 sustainable and attractive waste bins to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), with the aim of building a clean, environment-friendly and liveable city.

The handover ceremony was held on Tuesday (3 November) at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium, with DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam attending as chief guest.

In his speech as chief guest, Md Abdus Salam said building a clean and liveable Dhaka was not the responsibility of the city corporation alone, and that city residents had an equal responsibility.

He said the city corporation would play its role, while citizens also had to develop the habit of disposing of waste at designated places. A clean city could not be built without active public cooperation, he said.

Praising Bengal Commercial Bank's corporate social responsibility initiative, he said banks, insurers and various corporate institutions should come forward for urban development. The private sector could make an important contribution to greening and beautifying road dividers and open spaces, he said.

He also said the constructive role of the media was extremely important in making city residents aware. With everyone's combined efforts, they wanted to transform Dhaka into a green and modern city, he said.

The modern waste bins provided with Bengal Commercial Bank's support will make the city's waste management easier and encourage citizens to dispose of waste at designated places.

Under the pledge 'My city, my responsibility — I change, Dhaka changes', DSCC is working to modernise the city's cleanliness and waste management.

DSCC chief executive officer Md Khaybar Rahman, Bengal Commercial Bank managing director K M Awlad Hossain, all DSCC department heads, senior officials and representatives of Bengal Commercial Bank were present at the ceremony.
