News of a Four-Day Gas Shutdown Is a Rumour; Supply Will Not Stop, Says Petrobangla

The Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has dismissed as a rumour the claim circulating on social media that gas supply will remain shut across the country for the next four days. The corporation said gas supply will not stop.
The information was given in a press release signed on Tuesday (November 3) by Petrobangla's deputy general manager (public relations), Tariqul Islam Khan.
The release said emergency maintenance work is under way at Summit LNG, one of the two LNG terminals at Maheshkhali in Cox's Bazar. Because of this, the terminal's gas supply process (regasification) is shut.
As a result, the country's daily gas supply could fall from 2,570 million cubic feet to 2,250 million cubic feet over the next four days, the release said. In other words, supply will not stop entirely, but it may decrease somewhat for four days because of the LNG terminal maintenance.
The release also said a quarter is fabricating photocards in the style of various news outlets and spreading the rumour on social media that gas supply will be shut for four days, in an attempt to create panic among the public.
In this situation, Petrobangla has urged the public not to be misled by rumours.
