Gazipur ASI loses loaded pistol during drug raid; Tk 50,000 reward announced for its recovery

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police's Bason Police Station has lost his loaded pistol while arresting suspects in a drug case in Gazipur. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harunur Rashid of Bason Police Station has announced a reward of Tk 50,000 for anyone who helps recover the lost pistol.
OC Harunur Rashid confirmed the loss of the pistol at around 10 pm on Tuesday (November 3). He said, 'ASI Parvez Mallik lost the pistol he was carrying while arresting drug suspects. A general diary (GD) was filed at the police station on the day of the incident.'
According to police sources, the incident took place on the afternoon of Saturday (October 31). At the time, ASI Parvez Mallik was on duty beside Unishe Tower on the northern side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur city. He was in charge of the Honda Mobile-2 team.
ASI Parvez Mallik said he had gone on duty following the rules. During the operation, a scuffle broke out while putting two men arrested with liquor into the vehicle. He claimed the pistol was still with him at that time.
After returning to the police station with the two arrestees, he realised the pistol was no longer with him. However, he could not say for certain exactly where or how the pistol was lost.
The ASI also said the lost pistol contained one round of ammunition. Other members of the police were with him during the operation.
Police said a case has been filed against the two arrested men under the Narcotics Control Act.
OC Harunur Rashid said anyone who provides information about the lost weapon or helps recover it will be given a reward of Tk 50,000.
