Decision to quickly fill 171 vacant posts at Parliament Secretariat

Staff Reporter

A decision has been taken to quickly complete recruitment to vacant posts at the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat. The recruitment process will move forward for 16 posts of the first and second class and 155 posts of grades 11 to 20. In total there are 171 posts.

The decisions were taken on Tuesday (3 November) at the second meeting of the special committee formed to take decisions on the Parliament Secretariat's manpower and review their progress, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament and committee chair Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP.

At the start, the minutes of the committee's previous meeting were approved and confirmed subject to corrections. The progress on recruitment to the Secretariat's vacant posts and its manpower structure was then presented.

The meeting was told that direct recruitment to the 16 first- and second-class posts through the Public Service Commission (PSC) is ongoing. On the other hand, work continues under the Secretariat's own management to quickly fill the 155 directly recruitable posts of grades 11 to 20.

Organisational reform to make the Parliament Secretariat more modern and effective, and the formation of a 'Bangladesh Parliamentary Service', were discussed in detail at the meeting. The committee recommended appointing two to three experienced consultants to provide the technical and professional support needed to implement the reform.

A directional decision was also taken to consult the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the matter.

Committee members Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni MP, Whip M. Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu MP, Kazi Rafiqul Islam MP, Md. Selim Reza MP and Mosammat Shammi Akhtar MP took part in the meeting. Senior officials concerned of the Parliament Secretariat were also present at the time.
