ACC writes to all banks seeking assets of former DC Ibrahim Khan and three others

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has moved to trace the assets of four people, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Wari zone deputy commissioner (DC) Md Ibrahim Khan, over allegations of embezzling a house allotted in the name of a martyred intellectual's family in the capital, abuse of power, acquiring huge illegal wealth through corruption, and laundering money abroad through hundi.
The ACC has written to all banks in the country to collect information on the bank accounts and financial transactions of the persons concerned. It has also sought information from the Dhaka district registrar's office on whether they own any immovable property.
The letter says the other three facing the allegations are the then officer-in-charge (OC) of DMP's Bangshal police station, Sahidur Rahman, Sheikh Md Jabed Uddin and Miraz Md Zakir Uddin.
Those involved in the inquiry said the accused allegedly became owners of assets worth crores of taka, in their own names and in others' names, through abuse of power, various irregularities and corruption, including embezzling the house allotted in the name of a martyred intellectual's family. Allegations of money laundering abroad through hundi and acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income have also been brought under the inquiry.
A two-member inquiry team has been formed to look into the allegations, with ACC assistant director Bilkis Akhtar as team leader and deputy assistant director Sabikun Nahar as member.
As part of the inquiry, a letter from the ACC head office to the Dhaka district registrar asked whether any immovable property, including land, houses or flats, is registered in the names of the persons concerned.
The letter said that if land or immovable property is registered in the names of the persons mentioned at the relevant sub-registry offices, detailed information must be supplied, including the names of the deed's donor and recipient, the type of deed, deed number and date, the land's mouza, plot number, quantity and declared value.
The ACC letter also includes the names of several family members of the persons concerned, alongside the accused themselves. Among them, the property information of Sheikh Md Jabed Uddin's wife Mosammat Rita Farzana and other family members is also under the inquiry.
According to ACC sources, to verify the truth of the allegations, the sources of the persons' asset acquisition, property ownership and financial transaction information are being reviewed. In particular, the inquiry will examine whether there is any link between their asset acquisition and the allegation of embezzling the house allotted in the name of a martyred intellectual's family.
