Attack and vandalism at City Hospital in Mohammadpur after dispute over bill, one detained

An attack and vandalism have been alleged against the relatives of a patient at City Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Mohammadpur in the capital, following an argument over reducing a treatment bill. The hospital authorities claim belongings were also looted in the attack and that the damage is estimated at 50 to 60 lakh taka.
The incident took place at around 12:30am on Tuesday night at the hospital, which is located on Sat Masjid Road in Mohammadpur.
Hospital sources said a patient with a lip injury received treatment there and the treatment bill came to three thousand taka.
When the patient's relatives asked for the bill to be reduced, the hospital authorities agreed to waive part of it. However, sources said an argument broke out between the two sides over the matter.
The authorities alleged that after the patient paid the bill and left the hospital, several young men gathered there and carried out the attack and vandalism.
Mohammad Usman Gani, assistant manager of the hospital, said the incident caused an estimated 50 to 60 lakh taka in damage and that they had filed a written complaint at the police station.
Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said the hospital authorities had filed a complaint at the station and that one person had already been detained.
CCTV footage from the hospital is being analysed to identify the others involved in the attack, OC Abdul Halim said.
