Salahuddin Ammar, the 17th general secretary (GS) of the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RAKSU), has left his office eight days after his term in office ended.

He left the office on Wednesday night (4 November) following a letter from the RAKSU treasurer.

Ammar confirmed that he had left the office in a post on the social media platform Facebook at around 8pm on Wednesday.

In the Facebook post he wrote that the students of Rajshahi University had honoured him by voting for and electing someone as insignificant as him, and that he had tried to stand beside them with his ability, time and labour.

In the same post he wrote that he had made many mistakes, for which he sincerely apologised, that he was eternally grateful, and that the voters had given him a new life. He also wrote that had they not elected him, he might have disappeared quietly and unnoticed.

On leaving the office, Ammar wrote that under the administration's letter, RAKSU's keys and furniture were to be handed over on 4 November. Saying he had been freed from a big responsibility, he wrote that he had shared his final moments with the officials and staff who had been his companions at RAKSU for a year.

On his future programme he said the fight for the next RAKSU and the fight of the past nine-point movement would from now on continue on the 'Rabi Songskar Andolon' platform, and that he would carry on the movement from there.

Ammar urged students to remember him for any urgent problem. He also said he would try to resolve students' financial matters through the 'Novoculture' platform.
