Jamaat keeps its sitting amirs in three Chattogram units, change only in Khagrachhari
Even in voting by rukons (members), no new leadership has come to the top posts of Jamaat-e-Islami's three units in Chattogram. For the party's 2027-2028 organisational session, the sitting leaders have been re-elected as amirs of the Chattogram metropolitan, north district and south district branches. Chattogram Jamaat's organisational work will therefore run under the old leadership for the next two years as well.
Late on Wednesday night (4 November), the names of amirs of the country's 77 organisational district and metropolitan branches were announced from the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat amir and opposition leader in the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the names at a central executive council meeting held at the party's central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
According to the announced list, Mohammad Nazrul Islam has been re-elected amir of Chattogram metropolitan Jamaat. Alauddin Sikdar has again become amir of the north district Jamaat, and Anwarul Alam Chowdhury remains amir of the south district Jamaat.
Within greater Chattogram, however, the amir post changed only in Khagrachhari district Jamaat. Minhazur Rahman has been elected amir of that unit. He previously served as the district Jamaat's secretary.
In addition, Principal Maulana Nur Ahmad Anwari in Cox's Bazar, Professor Mohammad Abdul Alim in Rangamati and SM Abdus Salam Azad in Bandarban have been re-elected as amirs.
Chattogram metropolitan Jamaat assistant secretary Mohammad Ullah said the amir election process was recently completed separately in each unit through secret ballots of rukons, in line with the organisation's constitution. The names were then announced together from the centre.
He added that Mohammad Nazrul Islam previously served as acting amir in the metropolis and has now received the post as full amir. In Chattogram north and south districts the previous amirs were re-elected, and across greater Chattogram everyone except Khagrachhari was re-elected.
