Husband Detained in Madaripur's Rajoir over Alleged Killing of Pregnant Wife

A husband has been accused of strangling his wife, who was two months pregnant, in Rajoir upazila of Madaripur. Police have detained the accused husband, Sujan Munshi, in connection with the incident.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening (November 4) in Srikrishnadi village of Kabirajpur Union in the upazila, according to police and the victim's family.
The victim was named as Jannatul Islam Maisa. She was the daughter of Habibur Rahman Sejal of Charprasannadi in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj. Her husband Sujan Munshi is the son of Abdur Rab Munshi of Srikrishnadi village in Rajoir upazila.
According to police and members of the victim's family, Maisa was married in a family arrangement in February this year to Sujan Munshi, an expatriate in Saudi Arabia. After the marriage, marital discord began between them over the husband's extramarital affair. There are also allegations that Sujan beat Maisa several times over the issue.
The family alleges that, because she stood in the way of the extramarital affair, Maisa was strangled on Wednesday afternoon and then hanged inside the room. Sujan later took her to Rajoir Upazila Health Complex and informed the victim's family.
Relatives who went to the hospital saw injury marks on Maisa's body. When they became suspicious, they informed Rajoir police station. Police then went to the hospital and detained Sujan.
The victim's family said Maisa was two months pregnant.
Rajoir police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Aminul Islam said the body had been recovered and taken to the police station. It would be sent to the district hospital morgue for an autopsy. The victim's husband had been detained in the incident, and a case would be accepted if the family filed one.
