West Indies reached lunch at 86 for 3 at the end of the first session of the second Test in Sylhet. After the early setbacks, the visitors recovered through the batting of Amir Jangoo and debutant Kevin Wickham.

The morning session began in Bangladesh's favour. On a pitch offering assistance to the pacers, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud used the bounce and movement to strike one after another and put West Indies under pressure.

Taskin Ahmed struck first, bowling Brendan King to send him back to the pavilion. Taskin's second victim was Joshua da Silva.

In between, Hasan Mahmud bowled Kavem Hodge to increase the pressure on West Indies further. At one stage the visiting side was struggling at 27 for 3.

But Amir Jangoo and debutant Kevin Wickham allowed no further damage after that. Together they built an unbroken 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket, and it was their resistance that took West Indies back into the game before lunch.

Bangladesh bowled with the two pacers for almost the entire first session. After bowling continuously for more than an hour, signs of fatigue also appeared in them. Taskin in particular looked somewhat tired towards the end of his seven-over spell, after which he was rested and Hasan Mahmud was brought back into the attack.

In the first session, Taskin Ahmed took two wickets for Bangladesh and Hasan Mahmud took one.
