Pori Moni Gets Bail on Tk 500 Bond After Surrendering, Testimony Set for 23 December
Film actress Pori Moni has secured bail after surrendering in court following the issuance of an arrest warrant against her in a case filed over allegations of assaulting businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, intimidating him and vandalising a club. Her bail plea was granted on a bond of Tk 500.
On Thursday (5 November), she appeared in person before the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman and sought bail, which the court granted after the hearing. The actress reached the court premises at around 9:30am that day and entered the courtroom at around 11:40am.
The previous day, Wednesday (4 November), Pori Moni was absent from court on the scheduled day for recording testimony in the case. Her lawyer Nilanjana Rifat Survi sought time citing an allergy-related illness, which the plaintiff's lawyer Abul Kalam Mohammad Sohel strongly opposed. At the hearing, the plaintiff's side alleged that she was deliberately wasting the court's valuable time by repeatedly seeking time instead of appearing. After reviewing both sides, the court rejected the time plea, ordered an arrest warrant against Pori Moni, and set 23 December as the next date for recording testimony.
Dhaka Boat Club director and businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud filed the case with Savar police station on 6 July 2022 against Pori Moni and her associate Junayed Bogdadi Jimmy, bringing allegations of assault, vandalism and threats. Later, formal trial began through framing of charges against the accused on 26 June 2025. She was absent from court that day as well and an arrest warrant was issued against her, which was withdrawn the next day, 27 June, upon her surrender.
After the investigation of the case, Dhaka District PBI Inspector Md Monir Hossain submitted the charge sheet to the court on 18 March 2024.
The charge sheet says that on the night of 8 June 2021, Pori Moni went to the Boat Club and, after not getting a three-litre Blue Label liquor parcel for free, attacked Nasir Uddin. At one point, in anger, she threw an ashtray that hit Nasir Uddin above his right ear. She also vandalised the inside of the club's bar, and when obstructed, her associate Jimmy punched the complainant and intimidated him, the charge sheet states.
Notably, after the incident of the night of 8 June 2021, widespread discussion began over the matter. A few days after the incident, Pori Moni alleged at a press conference that she had been subjected to an attempted rape and attempted murder at the Boat Club. Later, on 13 June, she filed a case against Nasir Uddin; the businessman was arrested and later released on bail. The trial of that attempted rape and attempted murder case filed by Pori Moni against Nasir Uddin is currently under way at the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
