Bangladeshi Sentenced to Death in Kuwait for Killing Friend in Dispute Over Wife's Photos

Staff Reporter

A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced a Bangladeshi expatriate to death for killing his friend in a dispute over posting his wife's photos on social media. The sentence was handed down on Tuesday, 3 November.

According to the case documents and the public prosecution office, the victim was the accused's friend. Without permission, he had shared photos of the accused's wife on his own Facebook profile.

Public prosecutors said the accused repeatedly asked his friend to delete the photos, but the friend paid no heed. The accused then planned to kill him.

According to the allegations, the accused obtained a knife and, after confirming his friend was inside his workplace, waited outside. When the friend came out, the accused attacked him and stabbed him repeatedly in the head and body. The friend died from those injuries.

During the court hearing, the accused admitted his crime. He said that before this dispute, he and the victim had been friends.

He told the court that on an earlier visit to his home, his friend had taken photos of his wife without permission and later published them on Facebook.

The accused added that after offensive comments about his wife appeared, he requested his friend to remove the photos. But the victim refused and published more photos, which increased tension between the accused and his wife.

The accused told the court that because of this dispute he decided to take revenge and carried out the fatal attack according to that plan.

The court found him guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced him to death.
