Actress Pori Moni has secured bail after surrendering in a case over assaulting a businessman, vandalism and intimidation. After the hearing, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman granted her bail on a bond of Tk 500. Her lawyer Nilanjana Rifat (Surabhi) confirmed the bail.

Pori Moni arrived at the premises of Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in a white car at around 9:30am on Thursday (5 November). Before court proceedings began, she stayed in the car for a while, while a team of at least 10 personal bodyguards in black clothing surrounded the vehicle.

She had gone to court to surrender and seek bail in response to an arrest warrant issued in a case over vandalism, assault and attempted murder at the Dhaka Boat Club in Savar.

Later, as she entered the courtroom, a large crowd of journalists and litigants gathered. Pori Moni expressed anger while pushing through the crowd. At one stage, her personal security staff allegedly began shoving and beating journalists present. A misunderstanding with a journalist in the crowd also led to arguments and scuffles between the bodyguards and media workers, and tension spread across the court premises for a while.

Jagonews staff reporter Ashikuzzaman and multimedia reporter Abdullah Al Kausar were injured in the attack by the security staff. Ashikuzzaman was hurt in the back and Kausar in the shoulder and hand. The injured Ashikuzzaman was treated at Dhaka National Medical College Hospital, and it has also been alleged that his mobile phone was snatched.

Samakal reporter Robiul Hossain has alleged that Pori Moni herself snatched his mobile phone, while Agamir Somoy reporter Siam Hossain claims she scratched his hand. At the same time, a litigant was also seen in the court premises with a bloody bandage on his head.

Later, with the help of her security staff, Pori Moni made her way through the crowd into the courtroom and took part in the bail hearing through her lawyer. The case was filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud.

But after leaving the courtroom on bail, Pori Moni became angry again. Alleging that she had been touched, she verbally abused a journalist present and threatened him. At that time she said, “Journalists also touch women — how dare they.”
