Abul Hasan Rubel, executive coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon, has said that although changes are visible in some areas since the elected government came to power, there has been no fundamental change in people's lives.

Rubel made the remarks on Thursday after paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar.

Ganosamhati Andolon organised the programme marking 11 years since its emergence as a political party. On the day, Abul Hasan Rubel inaugurated the party's two-month programme.

Rubel said a plundering and fascist group had held state power in Bangladesh for a long time, establishing a system of looting in which all of people's rights were trampled. Since a democratic government was elected, he said, there has been change in some areas, but no big change capable of bringing a fundamental change in the public's lives.

The Ganosamhati leader said their struggle continues because they have not been able to bring a fundamental change in people's lives, and that with their limited participation inside the government, they will play whatever role they can on the people's behalf.

Present at the time were Ganosamhati Andolon's political council member Monir Uddin, publicity and publication secretary Bachchu Bhuiyan, Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Monirul Huda, and leaders and activists of various levels including those from Savar and Ashulia police station areas.

The party's announced two-month programme includes member recruitment and renewal, a discussion meeting on the sharing of common river waters, tributes and a rally at Santosh in Tangail on Maulana Bhasani's death anniversary, discussion meetings across the country, winter clothing distribution, tree planting, free medical services, waste removal and workshops.

The two-month programme is scheduled to conclude with a founding anniversary rally in Dhaka on December 11.
