BNP is forcing decisions through and has taken on rehabilitating the Awami League, Nahid Islam says in Gaibandha

The BNP is implementing various decisions by force, opposition chief whip in the Jatiya Sangsad and National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has alleged. He said the BNP has taken on the responsibility of rehabilitating the Awami League.
Nahid Islam made the remarks while speaking to journalists at an NCP regional coordination meeting held at the Gaibandha District Council auditorium at around 11am on Friday, with leaders and activists from Rangpur, Kurigram and Gaibandha.
Nahid Islam said the BNP is forcing through various decisions. Ruling parties in the past also passed many laws, but those laws did not last. One cannot stay in power for long by force in this way, he said.
He said that after 5 August, instead of implementing the aspirations of the mass uprising and the July Charter, the BNP had become desperate only to go to power.
On the Awami League, Nahid Islam said the BNP has taken on the task of rehabilitating the party. They have forgotten the Awami League’s oppression and torture of the late Begum Khaleda Zia. How are they forgetting so easily the Awami League’s 16 years of torture, he asked.
He said that just as Ziaur Rahman paid the price for a historic mistake by bringing the Awami League back into politics, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman should not have to pay the price for the same mistake.
On an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami, Nahid Islam said that although their alliance with Jamaat is agenda-based, it is not an ideological alliance.
On the upcoming union parishad elections, he said the NCP will field candidates on its own across the country.
Present at the meeting were NCP central committee senior joint member secretary Sarjis Alam, joint convener Dr Atik Mujahid, organising secretary Kamrul Islam Dorpon and local leaders.
Earlier, when the central leaders arrived in Gaibandha, local leaders and activists welcomed them with flowers.
